Odisha Government’s Initiative Empowers Patients with Private Hospital Care
In a pioneering move to bridge the gap between government and private healthcare services, the Odisha government has introduced the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana. This groundbreaking scheme extends specialized medical treatment to approximately 40,000 patients every month through accredited private super-specialty and tertiary care hospitals.
Seamless Access and Enhanced Patient Support
Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra emphasized the scheme’s commitment to patient empowerment. He proposed the establishment of help desks within major empanelled hospitals, simplifying access to tertiary care in the private sector and enhancing patient experience.
Extending Healthcare Beyond Boundaries
A visionary approach led Mohapatra to instruct the identification of states with a significant Odia workforce. This strategic step aims to facilitate healthcare provision for these workers even outside Odisha, showcasing the scheme’s determination to ensure comprehensive healthcare access.
Efficient Claims Processing and Financial Relief
Recognizing the importance of streamlined processes, Mohapatra urged officials to expedite claim processing from private hospitals. Swift settlements ensure patients seeking treatment beyond Odisha’s borders encounter minimal challenges, fostering a stress-free healthcare journey.
Impressive Utilization and Financial Support
With an average of 40,000 patients benefiting monthly from specialized medical care, the scheme disburses around Rs 90 crore each month to affiliated healthcare institutions. Notably, the government settled 1.97 lakh claims worth Rs 384 crore from private hospitals in the previous year, highlighting the initiative’s effectiveness.
Comprehensive Network and Inclusive Coverage
The initiative encompasses all major super-specialty hospitals within Odisha, offering access to an extensive array of 1,592 clinical packages. A network of 328 private hospitals within Odisha and 65 in 15 other states have been empanelled under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, greatly expanding the availability of quality healthcare services.
Empowering Through Smart Health Cards
Shalini Pandit, CEO of the State Health Assurance Society, highlighted that nearly 96.5 lakh eligible households have received smart health cards. These cards facilitate cashless treatment at empanelled private hospitals, both within and outside the state.
