India’s Pioneering Role in Traditional Medicine
Sarbananda Sonowal, the Minister of Ayush, recently visited the site in Jamnagar, Gujarat, where the groundbreaking ceremony for the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) is scheduled to take place on April 19. This marks a significant milestone in India’s contribution to the integration of traditional medicine with modern science and healthcare.
In response to these developments, Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his heartfelt appreciation for Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in this groundbreaking initiative. He emphasized that this convergence of traditional medicine with modern science and innovation will lay the foundation for a sustainable healthcare system, benefitting India and the broader global community.
Collaboration with WHO for a Healthier World
Two weeks ago, the Ministry of Ayush signed a host Country Agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) to establish the GCTM in India. The groundbreaking ceremony will be graced by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Director-General of WHO, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, highlighting the global significance of this initiative.
The core vision of the GCTM revolves around tapping into the potential of traditional medicine practices worldwide, aligning them with the principles of modern science and technology. By doing so, it aspires to elevate the health and well-being of communities across the globe. During its initial phase, the Centre’s operational office will be based at the Institute of Training and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) in Gujarat.
The Vision of GCTM The primary objective of the GCTM
is to harness the potential of traditional medicine practices from around the world through the lens of modern science and technology. It aims to improve the overall health and well-being of communities worldwide. The Centre’s interim office will be located at the Institute of Training and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) in Gujarat.
