We all know the health benefits of walking but what if you can also earn rewards for being fit! StepSetGo, India’s first fitness app to reward the users for walking, takes into consideration the number of steps one has walked over the course of the day and rewards users with coins that can be redeemed through the bazaar section.
While StepSetGo is already motivating users to stay indoors and fit amidst the lockdown, with their latest offering on their app, it is encouraging the consumer to up-skill as well by simply walking. As per Similarweb’s data, StepSetGo ranks second after the Aarogya Setu app in terms of user engagement under the free apps category in India.
Shivjeet Ghatge, Co-Founder & CEO of StepSetGo said that it is engaging and motivating users to commit to a routine which leads to habit-forming and building healthier communities. Here are excerpts of his interview with HealthWire.
Que: What is the entire concept of StepSetGo and how does it work?
Shivjeet Ghatge: The entire concept was built to address an acute point that people face with following a fitness routine. StepSetGo has made fitness not only rewarding but simple. It records each step taken by the user, tracks calories lost and measures kilometers walked. For every thousand steps walked outdoors, you get 1 SSG Coin and every thousand steps walked indoors, you get 1.5 SSG Coin. The user collects these SSG coins by walking regularly and redeems them to avail exciting offers on the Bazaar section of the app. The users can reward themselves with gadgets, apparel, online courses, wellness products, iPhones, and even bikes. This process is engaging and motivating for the user to commit to a routine which leads to habit-forming and building healthier communities.
The application also has an arena section wherein users can compete with family, friends, relatives, and colleagues leading towards building a fitter community. StepSetGo was launched in January 2019 and since then has managed to cross 5.9 million downloads wherein 95% of the users have been acquired organically making the brand unique in the fitness rewarding space.
Que. How it is bringing change (in terms of health) in people’s lives?
Shivjeet Ghatge: StepSetGo has revolutionized the way people followed fitness routines. During our initial phase of introducing this concept, we came across lots of stories through friends and family members, where they spoke about the challenges with sticking to a fitness goal. StepSetGo is surely a stepping stone towards forming a practice leading towards long term fitness commitment. While it initially attracts the user with rewards but retention is purely driven by competitive features on the app that allows the user to contend with the in-app community. It is also motivating to see your closed group walking the extra mile to earn rewards but importantly stay fit. Overall, StepSetGo was conceptualized to instill good habits into its users. We have seen stupendous response from our users who have happily shared their success and transformational stories. On multiple occasions, our users have suggested and motivated us to introduce new challenges in the arena section of the app.
Que: Please explain how the reward point works, how many points one can earn, is there any limit, etc?
Shivjeet Ghatge: There is no limit to how many coins one can earn. The more you walk, the more coins you earn. The more you engage in the gaming arena challenges, the more coins you make. The more dedicated you are to maintaining your levels, the more SSG coins you collect. It depends on how the user would like to incorporate the app in their fitness routine and make the most of it by redeeming points in the Bazaar section. For every 1000 steps walked outdoors, the user earns 1 SSG coin and for every 1000 steps walked indoors, the user gets 1.5 SSG coins. Algorithms for the indoor steps were changed in the wake of COVID-19 to ensure users continue to walk and stay engaged while in the confines of their homes.
