World Thyroid Day 2023: World Thyroid falls on May 25 and it is crucial to create awareness about the role of this vital gland and help people recognize symptoms of thyroid trouble. The thyroid is a tiny butterfly-shaped gland located at the front of the neck. It is essential for growth, metabolism, regulating heart rate, and multiple organ function. However, it can be disturbed when it either turns less reactive (hypothyroidism) or overactive (hyperthyroidism). It becomes underactive thyroid when the immune system starts attacking the thyroid gland. Some health issues like Graves’ disease, thyroid nodules, or follicular thyroid cancer can lead to an overactive thyroid gland.
