Over 7,000 Medical Officers Join Capacity Building Webinar to Enhance Knowledge and Skills
New Delhi, 8th June 2023: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently organized a national webinar aimed at empowering medical officers in tackling the challenges posed by Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Diseases (NAFLDs). Over 7,000 medical officers from across the country participated in the webinar, which focused on enhancing their understanding of NAFLDs, its causes, risk factors, clinical implications, and available treatment options.
As the economic and demographic profile of the country has changed, the epidemiological profile has also shifted, leading to a rise in non-communicable diseases. Recognizing the increased role of Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and District Hospitals, Shri Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, emphasized the importance of capacity-building programs for medical officers.
“Capacity building is necessary for medical officers as it equips them with the skills to understand the risk factors, appropriate diagnosis, and standard treatment flows to tackle the rising challenge of NAFLDs in the country,” said Shri Rajesh Bhushan. He stressed the significance of disseminating the right information to the community and inducing lifestyle-based changes, tasks that medical officers at the grassroots level are entrusted with.
The capacity building webinar organized under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases aimed to foster knowledge exchange, promote collaboration, and raise awareness about Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) and its impact on global health. The program consists of regular webinars and three-day residential training programs, with Madhya Pradesh being the first state to undertake the residential training.
Renowned experts in the field of hepatology and public health, including Dr. Ajay Duseja, Dr. Ashish Goel, Dr. S.K. Sarin, and Dr. Vineet Ahuja, were part of the panelists who shared their expertise and insights during the webinar. The event provided a platform for interactive discussions, allowing participants to exchange ideas, ask questions, and seek clarification on NAFLD-related topics.
The National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases is a pioneering initiative by the Union Health Ministry to address the growing burden of non-communicable diseases in India. Through strategic interventions and collaborations, the program aims to promote preventive measures, ensure early detection, and provide effective management of non-communicable diseases, ultimately improving the overall health and well-being of the population.
