New Delhi: Leading technology platform that promotes civic engagement Neta App conducted a survey to gauge citizen attitude with respect to online food ordering after the recent incident of a pizza delivery boy being infected with COVID 19.
As per the findings of the survey, 91 per cent said they will not order food online during the lockdown.
Interestingly, 22 per cent said that they will object if they see their neighbors ordering food from outside during the lockdown, fearing the possibility of transmission.
Over 10,000 people participated in the survey conducted by Neta App across X states and NCR which was conducted on April 20 and 21.
The food delivery sector, which had already seen a drastic drop in business due to COVID-19 may witness a further slump after this incident.
Also, the fact that 22 per cent people will object in case they see their neighbors ordering food from outside can be a cause of concern for residential associations (RWAs) leading to increasing complaints of vigilantism and overreach by neighbors in apartment complexes and residential colonies.
They will have to come out with a clear policy on food ordering and the circumstances under which it is allowed or not allowed.
Neta App Founder Pratham Mittal said, “Food delivery has suddenly elevated from being a personal decision to a community decision with as many as 22% people planning to object in case their neighbors order food from outside. While online food delivery apps are assuring a high standard of hygiene, those ordering from outside need to take all the possible precautions to ensure their own and their neighbors’ safety.”
“During times like these, we must trust civic authorities and RWAs to make the right decisions in this regard,” the founder added.
