Indian nationals who had come to Japan for work/study/jobs and were scheduled to leave for India between in March/April 2020, are stuck across different locations in Japan.
They made numerous attempts to contact the Indian embassy in Japan as well as tried to highlight their plight via various social media platforms and/or news agencies to Indian government authorities however there has been no progress in this matter.
With their families/spouses/children/dependent elderly waiting for their arrival home, they have no definite response to convince them. In this time of crisis, they are eagerly waiting to reunite with our families.
Among those stranded in Japan are a research scholar waiting to meet his newborn baby, a graduate worried about the job offer in Bangalore and a pregnant woman whose four-day work trip now stretches interminably are among the at least 220 Indians stranded in Japan.
Stuck in a foreign land as COVID-19 tightens its grip on many countries, dwindling financial resources and expired medical insurances are adding to their tensions.
The group of 220 Indians, including 92 dependants, have collectively reached out to the Indian Embassy in Tokyo asking to be evacuated to India, which has been under lockdown since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on March 24.

In a signed letter, the stranded Indians have also assured that they would quarantine themselves when they return and would cooperate with authorities.
Japan’s partial lockdown is also a source of worry with some saying they live in constant fear of getting infected with the coronavirus that has infected more than 2.4 million people and claimed over 1,70,000 lives.
As far as bringing the stranded Indians from abroad is concerned, so far thousands of people have been brought back to India. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, about 21 thousand Indians have been brought to India so far.
On the other hand, if we talk about Indians stranded abroad, 3336 Indians in 53 countries contracted the virus, while 25 of them were killed by the COVID 19.
Citizens of other countries who were stranded in India have also been sent from here. According to the government, initiatives regarding this were taken by the countries concerned.
So far countries like America, Japan, England, Germany, Canada have taken back their citizens stranded here.
