Days after some positive news around plasma therapy to cure corona patient, Govt made just opposite claim on Tuesday. Health Ministry said- ” There is “no concrete evidence to support plasma therapy as coronavirus treatment,”.
Senior health ministry official Lav Agarwal said today during the ministry’s daily briefing- “The therapy is still in an experimental stage and the Indian Council of Medical Research is conducting a national study on it. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal made an announcement recenty about successful plasam treatment. Delhi hospital also claimed first plasma therapy success story last week when the patient was a 49-year-old man who got treatment at a private hospital. After news of plasm therapy ..many offered to help and agreed to donate plasma. Immediately after Health ministry changed stand ICMR also explained in series of tweet about plasma therapy..ICMR said- “Currently, there are no approved, definitive therapies for #COVID19. Convalescent plasma is one of the several emerging therapies. However, there is no robust evidence to support it for routine therapy. US_FDA has also viewed it as an experimental therapy convalescent plasma therapy comes with its own share of technical challenges, like antibody titer testing.
There are also several risks of using this therapy including life-threatening allergic reactions and lung injury. Given the serious uncertainties around COVID19 convalescent plasma therapy, has initiated a multi-center clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of using this therapy in COVID19 patients in India.
