Four more corona positive patients have been reported in Madhubani on Tuesday. This brought the total corona infected patient count to 30 in the district. According to Dr Dr. Nilesh Ramchandra Deore, DM of the district, these four convicted persons are those who have returned from outside.
Despite rising number of cases in Madhubani, District Magistrate Nilesh Ramchandra Deore’ efficient handling of the situation has caught the attention of many. When the pandemic started, Madhubani district, which also happens to be one of the poorest districts of Bihar, was at greater danger than rest of Bihar. The district has one of the largest populations of migrant laborers. Some of the people had also attended that infamous Tablighi Jamaat event in the national capital of India.
Crisis was looming large in the district. Thousands of migrants already arrived in the district after the lockdown. The DM was to ensure that these people were kept in in isolation centres. He was also supposed to devote his time and attention on welfare measures that include distribution of ration and other relief measures to poor people.
People coming to the district had to be screened.
But during the course of a month, not only the Covid test was conducted under his leadership but ration was also reached to all the houses.
This was not an easy task to accomplish.
Anti- social elements were also trying to disrupt communal harmony by targeting those who had attended the Tablighi event. However, he controlled the situation by taking swift actions against miscreants.
He has successfully used social media and with its help, he is making every effort to reach out to the needy.
He said that it was not easy to turn schools, panchayat building and other public facilities in the district into isolation centers in a very short time. However, under his leadership, Madhubani has emerged as one of the top districts of Bihar in converting government buildings into isolation centres.
Nilesh controlled the situation at the ground level, and has been able to showcase Madhubani as a model district in carrying out relief work during the corona and lock-down.
Before this, he served as the district magistrate of West Champaran. He had also earned praise for his works there. From removal of encroachments to connecting with around two lakh people every month through Facebook, his amazing initiatives made him hugely popular with the people of the district. He was so popular in West Champaran that people had threatened to hit the street if he was not retained.
Nilesh, originally a resident of Satara in Maharashtra, studied both engineering and medical before becoming an IAS.
His early life story is interesting.
Nilesh, who topped the Maharashtra board in tenth, got relatively less marks in the twelfth.
His father wanted him to study medicine but he wanted to become an Engineer first. Then, his plan was to prepare for the UPSC exam. He went to take admission in an engineering college, but returned disappointed after seeing the situation there. Later, he did his M.B.B.S. from Terna Medical College & Hospital, Mumbai.
