In a heartwarming gesture during this lockdown crisis, B Raja Kumari, a woman IPS officer in Andhra Pradesh, prepared lemon rice at her home at 1 am and served the hungry workers.
News reached to B Raja Kumari, Vizianagaram district superintendent of police B Raja Kumari, that 11 women workers were walking for three days without food. She received a call from a woman around midnight on Friday. She told her that she and 10 fellow workers were hungry and had nothing to eat.
Raja Kumari’s duty hours end before 10 pm but still she managed to help these migrant workers who were in need.
“The fact that some poor women did not have food for days disturbed me. I called up my officers. They offered to take bread. In lockdown times, getting bread is also difficult at that hour. I know bread cannot satiate the hunger of people starving for three days”, Raja kumari said while sharing her feelings with Mirror.
She had decided to take the help of her assistant. They decided to prepare lemon rice, as this was the only rice item “they can make quickly”.
All the 11 women are natives of villages in Vizianagaram district and went to Nellore for work. “We did not have work for 50 days. We had spent the money we had. Now, we have nothing”, they narrated.

When they did not get food at Moduvalasa check-post in Vizianagaram, one of the migrant workers called up her relative in the village, who gave her the SP’s number.
They were stunned to see the district police chief personally bringing them food at 1 am.
