#BreathAfterDeath Campaign Promotes Organ Donation Awareness
AMC Mumbai (Association of Medical Consultants) commemorated National Doctors Day by unveiling three impactful initiatives designed to uplift the health and well-being of the community. During the association’s 51st anniversary event in Mumbai, renowned doctors Dr. Himmatrao Bawaskar and Dr. Suresh Rao were honored for their remarkable contributions to serving the underprivileged.
#BreathAfterDeath Advocates Organ Donation as a Noble Cause
One of the initiatives, the #BreathAfterDeath campaign, aims to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. AMC’s doctor-members have pledged to donate their organs, setting an example to encourage fellow doctors, patients, and the wider community to contribute to this noble cause. Organ India, a Delhi-based NGO, reports that 15 patients die daily while waiting for organ transplants, with a new name added to the waiting list every 10 minutes. Organ donation has the potential to save eight lives or improve the quality of life for individuals even after death, making awareness crucial in the effort to save lives.
#BreathwithEase Promotes Tree Plantation and Accessible Healthcare
AMC Mumbai’s second initiative, the #BreathwithEase campaign, focuses on tree plantation to reduce carbon footprint, conserve soil, improve the environment, and support farmers in Marathwada. Association members will showcase their contributions within their areas of practice, encouraging others to follow suit. Additionally, AMC Mumbai has announced free clinics provided by private doctors to ensure quality healthcare access for those who cannot afford it.
Dr. Nilima Vaidya Bhamare, President of AMC, emphasized the responsibility of doctors to not only save lives but also work towards the betterment of society. She highlighted the unique aspect of these campaigns, where doctor-members who have pledged their organs will receive poster certificates to display in their clinics, raising visibility among patients and families. Doctors will educate and encourage their patients, spreading the word about this noble cause.
Dr. Bhamare further elaborated on the #BreathwithEase campaign, explaining that doctors will personally plant fruit trees on farmers’ lands as a birthday gesture, with a target of planting 12,000 trees. Leading by example, AMC aims to inspire others to participate in similar initiatives. The association’s third initiative addresses the issue of quality healthcare for the underprivileged. Private doctors associated with AMC will provide free clinics and medical camps, with details available on the association’s website.
Through these initiatives, AMC Mumbai’s dedicated community of 12,000 members is committed to improving the health and well-being of the community. The association not only supports the medical fraternity’s advancement but also provides a platform for doctors to fulfill their purpose beyond their professional commitments.
