Patients to bear the impact of GST on hospital room rent exceeding Rs 5,000 per day
AIIMS, New Delhi, has announced a raise in the charges for its private ward rooms in response to the recent decision by the GST Council to impose a 5% tax on hospital room rent exceeding Rs 5,000 per day. The revised charges will take effect from July 18, 2022, as per the government notification.
The revised charges were communicated through an official notification issued by AIIMS Financial Advisor, Narinder Bhatia. The charges for A-class (deluxe room) at AIIMS will now be Rs 6,300 per day. Patients will be required to pay a 10-day advance deposit of Rs 66,000, which includes the 5% GST and diet charges.
AIIMS Raises Charges for Private Ward Rooms in Response to GST Council’s Decision
The decision to increase the charges comes as a direct result of the GST Council’s decision to levy a tax on high-value hospital room rents. The move aims to ensure compliance with the new taxation regulations and generate additional revenue for the government.
Patients opting for private ward rooms at AIIMS will now have to bear the impact of the GST on their hospital expenses. The increase in charges is expected to have an impact on the overall cost of treatment for patients availing these facilities.
Increased Charges Effective from July 18, 2022, as per Government Notification
The decision has received mixed reactions, with some patients expressing concerns about the additional financial burden it may impose. However, supporters argue that the tax revenue generated through such measures can contribute to improving healthcare infrastructure and services in the long run.
AIIMS, being a premier medical institution in India, offers a range of facilities and services to patients. The increase in charges for private ward rooms is expected to affect a specific segment of patients who opt for these premium services.
