Micronutrients Deficiencies can lead to chronic and even fatal health problems. Micronutrient deficits are common, particularly among women. Most people are affected by some standard nutrient deficiencies such as Vitamin A, B12, Vitamin D, calcium, and iron.

The results of a new survey done by highlighted some key health issues caused by micronutrient deficiencies that are seen among Indian women. Over 1200 women aged 2 to 65 years participated in the survey from Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai. Surveyors assessed their nourishment requirements and found that women suffer from 3 health issues simultaneously on average.

Most of these health conditions can be rectified via eating a balanced diet, required supplements, and nutrition awareness. A consultant Gynecologist and former president of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI) Dr. Rishma Dhillon Pai has said that people should be aware of these signs and symptoms of micronutrient deficiencies

Nutrient deficiency is associated with poor pregnancy consequences as well. Dr. Pai has said that a pregnant woman who has iron deficiency might give birth to an infant with serious defects in the body such as the nonexistence of a skull or spinal cord faults.
