Dr. Ramteke said, “You need to burn 3500 calories to lose some pound of weight. You can lose some pound in one month, if you are doing Zumba at least thrice in a week of 1 hour session. Doing it daily could be intense, so one should do it thrice in a week.”
Is Zumba better than gym?
Zumba is a better option for quick result in losing weight. If you are concerned about building muscle, toning your body, then doing gym is a better option, said Dr. Ramteke.
What factors decide the effectiveness of Zumba?
“As Zumba is a cardiovascular workout, it helps in reducing cholesterol, blood pressure, along with weight loss”, says Dr. Dr. Ramteke.
But if you have heart disease, you should avoid jumping directly in Zumba. Instead, you can start with fitness in cardiac rehabilitation program suggested by physiotherapist, she added.

- Basic benefit with Zumba is you lose weight faster. It also helps you lower your cholesterol level and maintain blood pressure.
- It is not helpful in gaining strength. Chances of getting hurt or injury are higher with Zumba. Knee can get affected because of over exertion.
How often one should do Zumba to lose weight?
You can do it every alternate day i.e. thrice in a week or daily for 5 days in a week is advisable, though it depends on individual’s stamina, his or her cardiovascular condition and respiratory function.
