Creating a Digital Health Infrastructure for the Nation
The Government of India has launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), a transformative initiative aimed at developing a robust digital health infrastructure for the country. This mission seeks to create a longitudinal Electronic Health Record (EHR) for every citizen, ensuring seamless access to healthcare information across various health IT systems.
Driving Interoperability with EHR Standards
To facilitate the exchange of healthcare information between different systems, the Union Health Ministry has introduced Electronic Health Record (EHR) Standards. These standards promote data uniformity and consistency, enabling better interoperability and data sharing among healthcare providers and institutions.
Governing Digital Health Applications
The National Health Authority (NHA) has issued comprehensive guidelines and notifications to govern digital health applications integrated with the ABDM ecosystem. These guidelines cover crucial aspects like the Health Data Management Policy, Data Privacy Policy, and ABDM Health Records (PHR) Mobile App Privacy Policy, ensuring data privacy and protection.
Authenticating Digital Healthcare Applications
The NHA has also established policies and procedures for authenticating digital healthcare applications within the ABDM framework. Through a Sandbox environment, these applications are validated, ensuring compliance with the set standards and facilitating wider adoption across the country.
