Empowering Vulnerable Communities
On World Health Day, P&G Health has made a significant announcement by partnering with Apnalaya, a Mumbai-based non-profit organization. Together, they are embarking on a mission to improve maternal and newborn healthcare in Mumbai’s M West Ward.
Enhancing Antenatal Care
This collaborative effort is aimed at strengthening antenatal care facilities in government health posts within the M West Ward, catering to the needs of underprivileged pregnant women and new mothers. The project’s scope includes capacity-building, awareness-raising, and technology-enabled point-of-care diagnostics.
P&G Health is committed to building a Healthier India through its CSR program ‘SEHAT.’ This initiative extends technology-enabled point-of-care diagnostics to urban communities, enhancing antenatal care services. The project involves screening for high-risk pregnancies, maternal health and nutrition education, and the promotion of antenatal and post-natal care services provided by government healthcare providers.
Community Health Workers
Apnalaya plays a pivotal role in this partnership by training and empowering community health workers, known as AarogyaSakhis. These workers are equipped with a mobile-based application called AnandiMaa, developed in collaboration with CareNX Innovations, Apnalaya’s technology partner. AnandiMaa helps in monitoring, reporting, and providing decision support for high-risk pregnancy follow-ups.
Antenatal Care Kit
To support service provision, an antenatal care kit equipped with smartphone-integrated portable diagnostic devices is provided at government healthcare facilities. This kit includes point-of-care tests to assess critical parameters such as blood pressure, hemoglobin levels, urine protein and sugar, blood sugar, fundal height, and fetal heart rate during pregnancy.
Expanding Access to Care
Praveen Singh, CEO of Apnalaya, expressed enthusiasm about extending this successful model to another ward in Mumbai. The ultimate goal is to expand this program citywide, ensuring that urban poor communities have improved access to antenatal care services.
P&G Health’s ‘SEHAT’ program, recently recognized as the ‘Best Public Health Program’ at the India Health and Wellness Awards 2022, encompasses a range of initiatives dedicated to public health. This includes ‘SwasthyaSakhi,’ a rural community outreach program, and ‘Yes to Poshan,’ aimed at advancing nutritional status in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district.
