Expanding Access to Healthcare
Flipkart, a subsidiary of the Walmart group, has ventured into the healthcare sector with the launch of its new app, Flipkart Health Plus. This strategic move aims to leverage the platform’s extensive reach to serve more than 20,000 pin codes across India, bridging gaps in healthcare accessibility.
Empowering Independent Sellers
The Flipkart Health Plus platform plans to onboard over 500 independent sellers who will collaborate with registered pharmacists. This partnership ensures the validation of medical prescriptions and the accurate dispensation of medicines, offering customers a reliable source for their healthcare needs.
Addressing Shifting Health Priorities
According to Prashant Jhaveri, CEO of Flipkart Health Plus, the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted a significant shift in Indian consumers’ preferences towards wellness and preventative healthcare. There is now a heightened focus on health and wellness like never before, creating an opportune moment for Flipkart’s healthcare expansion.
Accessibility to Genuine Medicines
Jhaveri emphasized that Flipkart Health Plus intends to address the critical gap in healthcare accessibility across the country, particularly in remote and underserved areas. The platform’s objective is to provide genuine medicines and healthcare products and services to those who were previously underserved.
Platform Availability
The Flipkart Health Plus app is currently available on the Android Play Store, with plans for an iOS release in the future. This availability ensures that a wide range of smartphone users can access the platform.
Ensuring Quality and Verification
Despite serving as an intermediary marketplace platform, Flipkart has implemented stringent quality checks and verification protocols. These measures are in place to facilitate the delivery of authentic medicines and healthcare products from independent sellers directly to customers’ doorsteps.
Future Expansion
In the coming months, Flipkart Health Plus plans to expand its offerings by onboarding third-party healthcare service providers. These providers will offer additional value-added healthcare services such as teleconsultations and e-diagnostics, further enhancing the platform’s healthcare ecosystem.
Flipkart’s entry into the healthcare sector with Flipkart Health Plus signifies a significant step toward democratizing healthcare access across India. By leveraging its established platform and network, Flipkart aims to make genuine medicines and healthcare products more accessible to a wider population.
